Did you know that House superstar Eddie Thoneick is actually an Indie boy at heart? Meet the man behind the man behind the decks...

Eddie Thoneick had a huge Ibiza hit, 'Live Your Life', alongside Subliminal records label boss and pumping house hero Erick Morillo and is also a resident at the world beating Pacha Ibiza.
Listening to Eddie is akin to being grabbed by a musical whirlwind. Brilliantly crafting rhythms, soaring house vocals and diving, filthy electro beats. Eddie has a passion for the dance floor and the music that surrounds it that goes beyond infectious.
Whether it’s ripping it up in the mix or delivering yet another sensational new production, it’s nigh on impossible to sit still once he’s got hold of you.
Leeds night Sequence is back for a one off special with Eddie Thoneick at The Warehouse on March 24th so we caught up for more…
How are you? How’s your year been so far?
I'm really well at the moment. Mostly the beginning of the year is a bit of a slow runner, that´s why I decided to dedicate this time to studio work full on! So a lot is in progress right now.
What’s inspiring and influencing you most recently?
What most people don't know is I come from Indie/Alternative music and that's actually the music I listen to day in day out when I'm not producing dance. I've been amazed by different small and big bands like Washed Out, M83, Miike Snow, Inflight-Safety, Editors, The National just to name a few. I really love the melodies and it's a big inspiration for me right now.
How do you like producing alone vs collaborating?
It depends. Both can be great. The thing about working alone is you can try out different kind of things like sound design or working on a beat for a whole day. I’m actually a kind of nerd when it comes to this. But sometimes you're simply stuck, so then a collaboration is always a nice thing because you have new input from your production partner. Collaborating is always refreshing. I've been in studio with Deniz Koyu for example and it was like hitting the nail on the head: we both use the same sequencer software and both work really fast. He's a super talented technical guy and a mix-master while I'm adding a lot of melodies and instruments to it. A nice combination I have to say and that's how it should be. It's inspiring.
Tell us about your latest track with Erick Morillo…
Erick and I were thinking about what to do next after 'Live Your Life' and 'Stronger'. I had a couple of Indie demos I did in my free-time which I sent to Erick. When we met in Miami at the beginning of last year we played around with some of the harmonies and found the basics for this track that were guitars, piano and bass. So it was a pure alternative demo at that time. As Skin has been a long time friend of Erick and I've been a huge fan of Skunk Anansie for ages it was obvious who to ask to work with us as a vocal-feature. After sending her the demo she came up with these amazing vocals. It was time to give the track the electronic feel, which we arranged in Erick´s studio in Miami.
What was it like working with a vocalist?
Working with vocalists is one of the most exciting things next to recording live instruments. You never know what the singers will come up with. In the end the mixing of the vocals is one of the things I like the most. Vocals always add this additional 40% to a production.
What are your aims when producing? Do you have goals with each track?
For me it´s all about producing quality music. The great thing is that a lot of people share the emotions and the love I put into producing tracks and that´s the most important thing for me. I make music with heart and it's amazing to see that people like it. I´m not going into the studio telling myself “I need to produce a hit record now”, which is mostly the reason for a lack of inspiration.
Why do you get on with Erick so well do you think?
I think that Erick and I are a fantastic combination when it comes to workflow in the studio. Erick has such a good feeling for song structure, arrangement and sounds. He always knows if something is missing or if something is too much in a track. I´m a technical nerd when it comes to sound creations and a musician by heart playing guitar, bass, drums and piano. So I think we complement one another perfectly in the studio and the results are great.
What should people expect from you at The Warehouse in Leeds?
I've got tons of new bootlegs and edits so it will be a big mash-up-orgy!
What else have you got coming up?
Next to some new solo house tracks I'll be putting out I started working on an Indie/Shoegaze/Synthiepop project, which I wanted to do for years but never found the time. It's actually really exciting playing and recording live drums, guitars, bass, piano myself. It's something really fresh and inspiring.
What do you like to do outside of music?
Music is a big part of my life, but I'm trying to keep the balance between the work and everyday life. This is really important because last year I found myself in a workaholic phase where I lost focus on important things in life, like friends, family, free time. It can be dangerous doing a job that you love so much. Now I do a lot of cooking, Crossfit, going out with friends during the week. It gives you the balance that we need.
