Saturday 17 June saw the beautiful beaches of Brixton Rooftop host one of Manchester’s finest clubbing exports, Micron. Having recently hosted the legendary Carl Craig and Jasper James in Halifax, the team behind the infamous party event were out in the Capital celebrating their 10th birthday. This time around they were hosting Russ Yallop and Miguel Campbell, two of house musics heavyweights bringing their Crosstown, Hot Creations summer vibes to the party.
For those who have visited a Brixton Rooftop party before you will know why it’s one of London’s most iconic party destinations. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the market trading on the street below, the club owners have kitted out a very sizeable rooftop terrace with its very own beach. It’s absolute eye candy to see and carries with it some strong Ibiza vibes.
As we entered the sold out event, the buzz was electric. The weather could not have been any better for the Micron team and the DJs. The party goers were tucking into their first few G&T’s and helping themselves to the wonderful array of food on offer at the event when the resident DJs kicked the party off.
The crowd were treated to a fine selection of new and old school house and techno from the fun loving Micron DJs, who were really indulging in party offerings from the get-go.
As the sun shone and the afternoon wore on, the temperature was turned up even more as Russ Yallop took to the stage. Bringing his usual rollin’ tech-house party vibe, the crowd were off, swaying back and forth in the scorching sun. The stage was primed and Yallop dropped Hardrive’s iconic house masterpiece 'Deep Inside'. The track tore through the crowd as they grooved on towards the evening.
Yallop finished with a few fiesty techno treats and Miguel Campbell took up the decks, bringing his deep, soulful vibes to the Rooftop. As the sun baked the crowd found another gear. He pushed and pulled us through two hours of exquisite house and techno, bringing the crowd up and down almost at will. Campbell dropped Kideko & George Kwali’s smasher 'Crank it', injecting more funk into the party before turning to some more heavy tech-house and techno beats.
As the party eventually came to an end under a beautiful London night. The party goers left the venue, onwards to their after party. Overall then, it’s easy to see why the Micron guys won DJ Mag’s Best of British “Best small club” two years running in 2009 and 2010, and they keep going from strength to strength at various locations in the UK, consistently delivering an absolutely top day out.
