Celebrated Manchester poet Mike Garry will be hosting a special event to launch his new collection of poems - God is a Manc.
The event will take place upstairs at Manchester's Odder Bar this Thursday 17th June, and will feature performance poetry from Marvin Cheeseman, live music from Mark Kennedy and a DJ set from Dave Hulston. And - of course - Mike Garry himself will be hosting the evening and reading selects poems from God is a Manc.
Initially commissioned by the BBC and Arts Council England, Mike spent three months travelling the length and breadth of North Manchester - including Harpurhey, Miles Platting, Moston, Crumpsall, New Islington and Blackley - in order to research for his book. God is a Manc documents this journey inspired by the people, places and histories that Mike encountered throughout the streets of Manchester.
This new book is the follow up to Mancunian Meander (Gorton Girls Know all the Words to songs by Chaka Khan), which focused on the south side of the City. God is a Manc completes the story.
God is a Manc will be published by Cheers Ta Publications on Thursday June 17th 2010.
