Radio One's dance music tastemaker has without any doubt become one the leading champions of upfront bass music and all its sub-genres, not to mention hip hop, grime, garage, dubstep, r'n'b, house and everything in between. His wildly eclectic and yet thoroughly cohesive radio shows and live sets have not only announced his undoubted skill as a DJ, but announced the arrival of a bass music soothsayer.
His Speakerbox shows have been the focal points at festivals like GlobalGathering, Creamfields and Boardmasters as his forthright and inventive abilities have enthralled ravers across the country. Friday 21st March sees the Speakerbox party arrive at Control in Leeds, with a mouthwatering line up joining the genre bending bass pioneer.
First up is all conquering drum n bass crossover master Sub Focus (check our Artist feature on him from 2013). Last year's album Torus saw Nick Douwma further cement his status as one of the country's most popular electronic artists, hooking up with Kele Okereke, MNEK and Alex Clare to devastating effect, marrying infectious pop hooks with dance floor primed bass and beats. His live sets are an audio visual array of excitement too, just check out his appearance at The Roadhouse from the end of last year to get your appetite well and truly whetted.
Drum n bass and jungle stalwart Shy FX joins in on the Speakerbox madness. The Digital Soundboy has been one of the scene's major protagonists since releasing 'Original Nuttah' back in 1994, and continues to be a hugely influential force both with his productions and his scene leading record label. Prepare for a masterclass. All About She, Breakage and Dismantle round off what promises to be yet another stonking Speakerbox spectacle.
