New On Skiddle: Defected in the Castle, El Dorado Festival, Bluedot Festival...

Emphasising the return of the usual festival season in 2022, this weeks New On Skiddle shines a light on a handful of UK festivals taking place this year with tickets only recently made available to buy.

It should be pretty clear by now that the normal, annual festival season is certain to make its long-overdue return in the spring and summer this year. And by heck, are we excited! Everywhere you look, there are lineups - and BIG ones at that - jumping out at you and rightly grabbing your attention, teeming with icons, titans and pioneers of the music world.

It should also then be little to no surprise to hear that this week's New On Skiddle consists mainly of those said spring and summer festivals, all boasting some seriously impressive and enticing programmes of music and art. 

Why not begin planning your return to the fields, to the inner city gatherings and the weekend-long warehouse parties in 2022, today. Secure yourself a couple of tickets to some of the magnificent festivals listed below and make memories with your closest companions that you'll be hard-pressed to forget!

Shangri-La presents: Defected in the Castle

When: Saturday 2nd July 2022

Where: Cardiff Castle in Cardiff

The credible team of promoters behind Cardiff-based event brand, Shangri-La will host one of the world's most reputed house music brands this July - Defected.

Dedicated to showcasing only the finest in house, the lauded imprint has been at the very forefront of the dance music scene for the past two decades. Recognised not only by its roster of unbelievable talent, the brand is also celebrated for its party-throwing prowess, frequently organising sell-out shows in clubs and venues around the world, as well as hosting its own festival.

Linking up to throw a shindig like no other in 2022, on the site of one of Wale's most historically significant attractions, Cardiff Castle, the day-long summer spectacle is expected to feature performances from a list of lofty trailblazing dance legends. More details concerning the lineup for the upcoming event have yet to be disclosed. Cultivate Festival

When: Saturday 14th - Sunday 15th May 2022

Where: Beach Esplanade in Aberdeen

If you fancy a trip up to Scotland this year, then head to Aberdeen for one of the North East's biggest Electronic festivals. Set across two days with the backdrop being the gorgeous Aberdeen Beach, listen to some absolutely massive tunes while the sun goes down.

Names announced for the festival include Denis Sulta, The Blessed Madonna, Ross from Friends and Dance System. Having been set up in 2018, Cultivate has been welcoming some of the best electronic music talents from across the world to Scotland since. With 2500 ravers each day, this is going to be a brilliant weekend-long celebration of dance.

Electric City Festival

When: Sunday 28th August 2022

Where: Clapham Common in London

London will have a brand new festival to celebrate this Summer. Electric City festival is going to be an absolutely vital place to come and see the very best in electronic and bass music. With Chase and Status, Andy C, Sub Focus and Hybrid Minds all announced, just to name a few, this is going to be an unforgettable one.

It'll be Chase and Status's only London appearance of the year so if you want to capture their new music in the capital soon then this is your chance. A day-long party of DJ sets, Clapham Common will be filled to the brim with ravers.

El Dorado Festival

When: Thursday 30th June - Sunday 3rd July 2022

Where: Eastnor Castle Deer Park in Ledbury

One of the greatest escapes of the festival season returns in 2022, with El Dorado back in force to bring you a long weekend of dance. A festival for the party starters, El Dorado is the epitome of a care-free attitude, there are no expectations, hedonism is welcomed and celebrated and everyone is welcome.

From the 2022 edition of the festival you can expect a range of eclectic performers within the stunning natural beauty of Eastnor Castle Deer Park. They've announced that Groove Armada, Kojey Radical, Hybrid Minds and so many more names will be playing this year, it'll be a wild one.

Bluedot Festival

When: Thursday 21st - Sunday 24th July 2022

Where: Jodrell Bank Observatory in Macclesfield

Bluedot is one of the most unique festivals in the UK. Set at the Jodrell Bank Observatory, it is one of innovation and discovery, where you are encouraged to open your mind to new ideas in a programme of music, arts, science, technology, culture and film. The line-up is an extension of this, all innovators poking at the definition of genre and artistry.

Bjork is headlining the festival which will also feature appearances from Groove Armada, Metronomy, Mogwai, Kelly Lee Owens and other innovators. With a stellar line-up of independent artists too, this truly feels like a celebration of all the best things about the arts.

Teletech Festival

When: Saturday 6th August 2022

Where: TBA in Manchester

Teletech is a huge Techno festival that is coming to Manchester, with Teletech having ran some huge shows in the city, 2022 will see them put together a line-up of the very best Techno talent coming through. With Dax J, Randomer, Rebekah, Trym and more all coming together in this huge event.

The location is not yet known, so keep your ears peeled for some more news soon, Teletech Festival will be the perfect event to attend this Summer.

Woodland Disco Festival

When: Saturday 2nd July 2022

Where: Lime Lane Woods in Nottingham

This will be Nottingham's first-ever Woodland Disco Festival and to get the party really started they have invited down Dimitri From Paris, Jocelyn Brown, Crazy P and more to light up the woods full of colour, glitter and dancing. Set just 10 minutes away from the centre of Nottingham, this festival is easily accessible.

With some of the biggest names in House and Disco, huge production, delicious street food and plenty of disco balls to be found, the woods will be changed into a completely immersive space. Get down to see these internationally-acclaimed artists.

Manchester Psych Fest

When: Saturday 3rd - Sunday 4th September 2022

Where: Various Venues Around Manchester in Manchester

Manchester Psych Festival returns again this year after a hugely successful 2021 edition that served as the perfect way to welcome back live music. For 2022 they have managed to secure artists such as Kurt Vile, Goat Girl, Tinariwen and Gwenno for this ode to all things psychedelic and indie.

There are more names yet to be announced for this great day in Manchester that utilises some of the city's best venues including YES and the Deaf Institute. With them all located a few minutes walk away from each other, it's easy to ensure that you manage to see all the artists you want to.

Connected Festival

When: Saturday 30th April 2022

Where: Lydd Airport in Romney Marsh

The biggest festival in Kent returns to its home of Lydd Airport this year and for the extravaganza, they have added DJ EZ, Hybrid Minds, Sub Focus and plenty more names to make this an absolutely tantalising prospect. With huge brands on board to host the stages such as Ministry Of Sound, Breakin Science and Garage Nation, this will be one of their biggest years yet.

Over the course of a day, 100 artists will play across five stages to 10,000 ravers. Make sure that you're one of them and get ready to dance all day long. You'll need the whole of the next day to recover.

Newsam Park 2022

Where: Temple Newsam in Leeds

Newsam Park Open Air festival makes another appearance on the Summer festival circuit after a memorable 2021 debut. It was one of the first festivals to go-ahead last year and was a welcome return to live music. Now in 2022, they're looking to build on that success by going even bigger.

For 2022, Dan Shake, Jamie Jones, Jayda G and Marco Carola are just some of the names that will be gracing the stages of the festival. It looks as though Newsam Park Open Air will keep on growing into a hugely successful festival.
