A real bastion of live music on the outskirts of Manchester's Northern Quarter, the Night & Day Cafe has long since been a hub of live music in an area that is increasingly focused on electronic dance music. With Night & Day's 23rd birthday imminent, we thought we'd check out how it will be celebrating.
Irish quintet Walking On Cars hit the Manchester venue on Tuesday the 25th. Since ditching college to record their first material in a remote cottage in the Irish countryside, the five piece have enjoyed significant airplay as well as props from across the industry, starting with a Red Bull Bedroom Jam award in 2012.
Their last EP As We Fly South (listen to some of that above) has highlighted the sort of immediate, dreamy pop we can look forward to from the the fast rising band. Grab your tickets here.
Reggae chanteuse Hollie Cook brings her brand of tropical, pop flavoured roots music to Night & Day the following evening. As heard on her sterling new LP Twice (above), Hollie's dreamy, lilting vocals floating over the top of bass heavy, atmospheric reggae has set her apart as a unique, hugely acclaimed voice in the scene. Expect plenty of stunning melodies and visceral grooves when she takes to the stage on the 26th. Get your tickets here.
The Coral member Ian Skelly arrives in Manchester on the 27th, flaunting his outstandingly hypnotic, psychedelic rock staple. Using vintage production techniques, Ian Skelly produced his first solo LP Cut From A Star (listen to 'I See You' above) last year, showcasing his smudged, hallucinogenic approach superbly. Highly recommended. Get your tickets here.
Following on from the massive success of the first Psych Fest outing back in May, Psych Fest II arrives at the end of November, with another cracking line up in tow. The 12 hour mini festival will star appearances from experimental art rockers Clinic (check out 'Miss You' above), vintage psych folk duo Gulp, and an exclusive live set from Wartime amongst a lot more. Head here for more on Psych Fest II. Grab your tickets here.
