After the organisers of Brew at the Bog sadly announced they woulnd't be holding the festival in 2017 the owners of Bogbain farm (the venue) thought long and hard. Did they want the madness, the stress, the upheavel that comes with putting on a festival? The venue is one of the most popular wedding destinations in Scotland so why put themselves through the emotional turmoil. "Have a nice life" said the angel on one shoulder. "Move your ass," said the devil on the other, "get out there and put on the best indie msuci festival in Scotland"
You guessed it, despite frequently being slapped down, the devil won!
Bogbain is run by Bruce MacGregor, a professional musician of nearly twenty years, touring with Blazin Fiddles and also BBC Radio Scotland's folk and roots show presenter. This is why the devil had such an easy job!
The festival will be run over two nights, and one day, on the farm which overlooks the Moray Firth to the Black Isle.
"We had so many people asking us to do something this year. Bands, promoters and music lovers of all genres loved the venue and wanted to keep it used for a festival. So that was it - our fate was sealed!" said MacGregor
The first acts booked were musical friends of MacGregor, Justin Currie from Del Amitri and the genre defying, Lau. "Initially we thought it might be all folk and roots based as a festival but then Chay Woodman who has booked stages at numerous festivals throughout Scotland, got in touch and the Uisghe barn was born!"
The barn, which is without doubt one of the quirkiest venues in the country, will showcase the real up and coming talent that is available in Scotland. Artists include Be Charlotte, Pronto Mama, Schnarff Schnarff and Indigo Velvet.
The Acoustic bothy will host an amazing array of talent from the supreme Rachel Sermanni to Scotland's true musical troubadour, Rab Noakes.
If it's good music and it's made in Scotland...it'll be at Northern Roots!
