Ibiza is the place to be. It’s possibly my favourite place on the planet, and that’s why I’m out here along with thousands of workers trudging through the season. It’s been two weeks and I’m still in holiday mode. Out here money slips through your fingers; the food is great (if you go to the right places), there’s plenty to drink and there’s a big batch of superclubs ready to be explored.
It’s been relatively quiet since I arrived. Some workers have been here for months, some for weeks and some for days, but the holiday season has yet to kick off in full swing. Granted, there were a few opening parties last week; Sankeys got greedy and threw two! (Both of which were very enjoyable). Across the two nights they showcased the talents of Booka Shade, Basement Jaxx (who were terrible), Tobi Neumann, Solomun, David August and Adam Shelton, to name but a few. Read reviews of the Sankeys Opening Parties here. But the island is still yet to hit full throttle.
That’s not to say that it hasn’t been busy! The first week played host to the annual IMS. I found myself at the Grand Finale, an event that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Happening only once a year, the team behind it don’t hold back and this year was no different. DJs performing included huge dance personalities Carl Cox and Pete Tong, man of the moment Seth Troxler, Desolat don Loco Dice and live performances came from Azari & III and Disclosure. Combine the talents of the above with the extraordinary setting of the Dalt Vila, one of the highest points in Ibiza, and you know it’s going to be a momentous occasion.
Of course I’ve had many a trip down the West End. The strip centred in San Antonio plays host to a jumble of pubs, bars and clubs, each with a pack of PRs ready to grab you and lure you in with their deals and their chat. If you like getting smashed, love the charts, and enjoy making a general tit of yourself then the West End is for you!
So far I’ve had a triple dose of Sankeys, attended a swanky little party up in the hills hosted by London night Creche, trecked up to Dalt Vila for the IMS and had a general chill out on the beaches of San An (Cala Gracia is one to look out for on your travels).
Advice to all you holiday makers: prepare for the time of your lives and bring a fat wad of cash; it’s not cheap out here.
Keep in the know through the Skiddle Ibiza section, where you’ll find news about all things Ibiza and reviews of big and small club nights you can expect to find when you get here.
I’m planning on partying through Circoloco at DC10, the We Love... opening and the Amnesia opening over the next few weeks (and probably a lot more) so keep your eyes peeled for all the happenings. I will be keeping you informed throughout the season – it would be rude not to!
