We're getting down to the samba infused grooves on Gilles' 2009 compilation Brazilika, listen with us here.

2014 is undoubtedly going to have a Brazilian flavor. The World cup takes place there this summer (winter down there in the Southern hemisphere of course) and will ensure that the world’s gaze is on the Samba nation. We don’t fancy England’s chances much, but that hasn’t meant we haven’t got excited nevertheless, so we plumped for a selection of the country's music with our favourite titan of world music at the helm, Gilles Peterson.
His Brazilika compilation from 2009 is the perfect introduction for those wanting to delve into the world that is Brazilian music, featuring the likes of Azymuth, Friends From Rio, Krishnanda, The Ipanemas and more (the Spotify stream above allows you to listen to the tracks individually or via Gilles' seamless mix), as a showcase of the label Far Out Recordings which supplies the music.
Gilles' next show with us will be at Shipping Forecast on Friday 28th February, and you can learn all the full ticket details here. He'll be joined by the Liverpool legend Phil Charnock, the erstwhile former Chibuku resident returning to the booth for the first time in years in a clear nod to the earlier history of the iconic clubnight when broken beats and eclectic soul was a constant focus of the party. For Liverpool ravers of a certain vintage (like our ancient editor), it's a must attend show.
Looking into what Festivals to do this summer? We are too. Keep your finger on the festival pulse at our special section right here.
