Bestival have announced that Outkast will headline the festival in Robin Hood Country Park this year. The Atlanta duo themselves had set the rumor mill in motion when they revealed a 40 date festival tour to celebrate the twenty year anniversary of their debut Southernplayalisticcadalicmuzik by headlining Coachella in the USA, with this one first of two appearances announced for the UK this year.
Bestival founder Rob da Bank stated:
“Hey ya! By the power invested in me as chief Bestival booker, I'm pretty darn excited to announce that OutKast are headlining Bestival this year! We've fought hard to get the recently reunited legendary hip-hop duo onto the ferry... and it's no ordinary ferry this year as Bestival goes Desert Island Disco for 2014… Palm trees, grass skirts and mirrorballs are the order of the day. It truly is gonna be the Bestival yet!”
Rappers Big Boi and Andre 3000 have been cornerstones of hip-hop since the release in 1994, with the latter also becoming a global fashion icon and brilliant singer, culminating in 2003’s split album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. That featured the smash out record ‘Hey Ya’ (below), a track that is simply impossible to dislike.
To celebrate what is clearly an immaculate coup from the Isle of Wight based festival, this year’s theme will play on the meaning of the band by adopting the Dessert Island Disco. Expect the outfits to fuse shiny disco balls with palm skirts, enabling everyone to raucously celebrate being an Outcast from standard civilisation with a disco dominating soundtrack. Tickets are available now.
