Nestled within East London, Oval Space has quickly become one of the capital's most talked about music arenas, providing ravers in the city one of the most forward thinking confines to experience electronic grooves. As March approaches we took time to run our eyes over their in house brand of parties, simply titled Oval Space Music, taking place in March, with three gems cropping up.
The first party of the month sees Oval Space welcoming one of the revered DJs from the States over, Dennis Ferrer. Ferrer has been pivotal in developing the gospel house sound, infusing the typically string laden and vocal led music with a darker and more electronic undercurrent.
His ability to shift between the orchestral and uplifting tenets of house and disco with more warehouse designed sonics marks him out as a unique figure in electronic music, and someone perfectly poised to draw the connections between the historical movements of modern dance music. Above all that though, he can rock a dancefloor.
The deep house feel is strengthened by the presence of two further US stalwarts, the self proclaimed "Dancers" DJ New York's DJ Qu and Michigan's don of deepness Rick Wade, with jozif on support. For tickets head here.
Oval Space then shapes up for a live music showcase midweek, with Germanic composers du jour Kollektiv Turmstrasse at the pinnacle of the bill. Having lit up imprints such as Connosiuer and Solomun's Diynmiac with their sparse beats and cinematic melodies, their live show manages to weld a melancholy outlook to the trance like rhythms of clubland, wrestling an emotional resonance out of the machines.
They will be joined by Swedish analogue house maestros Genius of Time (check out their mesmerising Boiler Room vid above as evidence of what to expect), and White Collar Boy, the duo behind DJMag's November Single of the Month 'SUUU'. jozif again delivers a DJ set.
The live theme is continued on Friday 21st with a launch party for Evian Christ's Waterfall EP. The producer has been a continued presence on the lips of tastemakers and discerning music aficionados since his downbeat and hip hjop informed productions first surfaced in 2001.
His Trance Party was launched in late 2013 as an outlet for his more experimental club sounds and influences, and that promotion will be part of Oval Space Music's efforts o the evening. As well as a live performance form the man himself, Travi$ Scott, Millie & Andrea and Sophie will also be bringing their stage shows to the club.
DJ sets come from bass troubadour Lil Silva, Powell and Mssingo. Full listing and tickets can be found here.
