As one of the anchors of Steve Lawler's all conquering VIVa Warriors brand, Detlef's stripped back, measured approach to floor-ready house music has become one of the cornerstones of the VIVa experience. As the night continues to blaze in Ibiza this summer, Detlef is busier than ever, easing the White Isle revellers into the intoxicating, dark and powerful sounds of VIVa every Sunday.
In between all that, he'll also be heading to Constellations in Liverpool as Motion and Luna link up to ensnare the services of Greek house ambassador on July 11th. We caught up with him to find out more about the responsibilities of being a resident at one of the most respected nights around, his secret to quality remixing and his favourite tunes at the moment. See him in action for LockRoom below.
As resident for VIVa Warriors, what would you say your main responsibilities are?
My role is setting the mood of the night. You have to be between the lines and don't push it too hard but don't keep it too low so everyone can have a great time until the main act starts. I just love building up the night.
Could you tell us one your favourite moments from when you've been in Ibiza?
Lots of great memories in Ibiza. One of them certainly was my first party at Warriors and the vibe I felt. Still remember clearly that night.
How did you initially get involved with VIVa?
That was back in 2010. I sent some tracks to Leon and he was listening to them while he was on a bus tour in United States with Steve. Steve heard the songs and he liked them so he decided to sign them and me as an artist to the label.
You're a dab hand at remixing (as heard above), how do you ensure that you do the original track justice?
I always use parts of the original tracks. Maybe I chop them up and change them, do it my way and add extra elements but there are always visible parts in all remixes.
You'll be playing in Liverpool for Luna this July, what do you think of the city?
I think Liverpool is a great city with lots of things going on so people are very well educated on music.
What track is without fail making it into your sets at the moment?
Dynamiquee 'California Brunch'
If I could give you the power to curate your ultimate party, who would you play with and where would it take place?
Well what I would do is get really nice people like Eats Everything, Skream, Steve Lawler, Hot Since 82, Denney, wAFF and throw a party on the beach and have a great laugh while partying like champions.
Catch Detlef in Liverpool on the 11th. Head here for more on VIVa Warriors.
