Last minute announcements rarely come as big as this! Paolo Nutini is the Friday night headliner at this year's Loopallu Festival, which takes place in Ullapool on 1-18th September.
With sell-out shows and festival appearances throughout the world, and second album Sunny Side Up debuting at number 1 in the UK charts earlier this year, Paolo is set to raise the roof of the Loopallu Big Top.
Paolo’s manager Brendan Moon says “Paolo wanted to play because he is the kind of guy who doesn’t forget people who have helped him out. Back when Paolo was about 16, Robert gave him gigs all over the north of Scotland when it was hard to get gigs, just because he liked the music and is always keen to help new acts. So the chance to return the favour was too good to miss, seeing one of the biggest artists in Europe right now in a tent playing to 2500 people will be great for fans.”
Robert Hicks, the Festival's director, says "Words cant describe my excitement in having Paolo, one of the biggest artists on the planet, coming to headline this year's Loopallu. Every morning for months now I’ve rechecked the confirmation email to make sure I’m not been imagining it, and in two weeks that dream will come true. It also marks a welcome return to Ullapool for Paolo who last played five years ago, and coincidently met local sound engineer Graham ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson who has toured the world with him ever since. Once again Loopallu has delivered a world beating headliner, and proves at only 2500 capacity, small is definitely beautiful".
Other acts appearing over the weekend are Saturday night headliners The Magic Numbers who are set to show the Loopallu audience why they are one of the UK’s favourite festival acts. An overdue appearance from Scottish indie heroes Idlewild, Turin Brakes making their first ever Highland Festival appearance, wonderful alternative pop from Aberfeldy, Mt Desolation featuring Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin (who are better known in their roles with Keane), Scotland’s hottest new band Kassidy, BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ‘Best Live Act’ (2010) nominee Adrian Edmondson and the Bad Shepherds, local favourites The Vatersay Boys, rising traditional music stars Skerryvore, singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni, recent Atlantic Records signing 18 year old Carly Connor, the new project from Johnny ‘Pictish Trail’ Lynch and Adem Ilhan (Fridge) Silver Columns, Inverness’ finest James Mackenzie and the Aquascene, and Ullapool act Copperdrift.
