Mantra Warehouse is currently facing issues with Manchester City Council and is under threat from redevelopment plans.
The former cotton mill in Ancoats has hosted local clubnights like Meat Free, Zutekh, Micron, High Hoops, MVSON along with live performers including Slick Rick, Pete Rock and many more over the past year or so.
The venue owners have been using temporary event licenses for the last three years to keep the project going, with no reports of trouble to any of the authorities. Earlier this year, they raised just enough funds to obtain a premises licenses, which allowed them to offer a free venue space for Manchester's talent.
The premises councillors are currently talking about a master redevelopment plan for the area, something which could close Mantra for good, although there are no current active planning permissions on the public planning register.
The team behind Mantra are being summoned to a committee on the 24th of August. If the venue can gather as much support as possible there is a solid chance they could successfully keep the space open.
Over the last decade, the UK has seen more than 500 event spaces close their doors. To show your support in keeping this one open, you can sign the petition on Change.org here.
