Places to catch artists performing live this Record Store Day

Here are some record shops across the UK that are putting on live performances and other fun festivities tomorrow AKA the best day of the year AKA Record Store Day!

Date published: 22nd Apr 2022

It’s Record Store Day tomorrow! Finally, after waiting what feels like a lifetime our favourite day of the year is back, and we’re beyond excited. In part because of all the stunning limited edition vinyl that’s up for grabs, but also because the day itself is simply magical. We can thank record shop owners who organise games, quizzes, in-store performances, signings, Q&As and more for that.

But some shops go a little harder than others. Some aren’t involved in Record Store Day at all. So if you’re looking to enjoy the fantastic vibes the day brings, here are some shops that'll be hosting live performances tomorrow.

Assai Dundee

Where: 33 Union St, Dundee DD1 4BS

Assai Dundee goes all out on Record Store Day. This year, from 8 am till 7 pm, you can expect live music from Kathryn Joseph, in-store signings, prize giveaways and, of course, a blissful, fun atmosphere all day long.

Monorail Music

Where: 97 King Street, 12 Kings Court, Glasgow G1 5RB

Why not swing by Glasgow record shop Monorail Music? This year will be the shop's first Record Store Day celebration since 2019, and it looks like they have a schedule packed with pure fun with live performances from Gabo, Melanas, Lady Neptune and DJ sets from Camera Obscura, Rebecca Vasmant, Venetian Blinds, and Lost Map

Underground Solu’shn

Where: 9 Cockburn Street, Edinburgh EH1 1BP

Underground Solu’shn has been bringing fresh tunes to the people of Edinburgh since 1996. And for Record Store Day, they’ll have “performances rockin' in the shop”. It looks like they haven’t confirmed any artists just yet, but we’re sure it’ll be a top day out.

Voxbox

Where: 21 St Stephen St, Stockbridge, Edinburgh EH3 5AN

Another Edinburgh record shop with a cracking itinerary for RSD, Voxbox will be putting on live music from 11-7. It’s free entry, there’s a licensed bar, and there’ll also be Q&As and interviews. Expect performances from Kathryn Joseph, Jill Lorean, Jane Blanchard, Michael Cassidy, and more. Read more RSD at Voxbox here

Jacaranda Record Store

Where: 21-23 Slater Street, Liverpool L1 4BW

Of course, Jacaranda had to be on our list! This iconic Liverpool record shop will be putting on acoustic sets by Pixey, The Heavy North, Bright Town and more from 3 pm. And if you get peckish, there’ll be a barbecue with vegan options and complimentary tea and coffee to wash it down. Or, since it’s the weekend, there’s also beer and cider!

Spinning Discs

Where: 107 to 109 Chesterfield Rd, Meersbrook, Sheffield S8 0RN

Spinning Discs, a record shop in Sheffield that regularly hosts in-store performances, will have sets on Record Store Day from Adrian Denton, Nitram Noir, Pete S, Russ Nightlight, DJ Desmond, DJ Cactus X, and DJ Little Fire. It’s guaranteed to be a brill day at this beloved independent record shop.

Rough Trade Nottingham

Where: 5 Broad St, Nottingham NG1 3AJ

Rough Trade is a cracking record shop in Nottingham that regularly hosts in-store performances. So why would Record Store Day be any different? Genres represented on the day include live indie, hip hop, electronic, pop music and DJ sets. Perfect for anyone with diverse tastes!

Eastern Bloc

Where: 5a Stevenson Square, Manchester M1 1DN

This shop is the only one on our list that isn’t actually participating in Record Store Day. They’re still celebrating the day, but they won’t be stocking any RSD titles. Eastern Bloc is a Manchester record shop that is essential to the city. And this year, they’ll be celebrating with DJs performing from 10 am all the way up to 4 in the morning. That’s eighteen hours of tunes!

Phonica

Where: 51 Poland St, London W1F 7LZ

London record shop Phonica will be opening its doors early and raging on until 9:30. They promise “excellent music from special guests throughout the day” but are withholding the names of the artists until just moments before they perform. If you can’t make it, they’ll be live streaming so you won't miss out!

Casbah Records

Where: 320-322 Creek Rd, London SE10 9SW

Casbah Records aren’t messing about this Record Store Day! This year, they’ll be hosting a live performance by the hectic indie band Spang Sisters and putting on a raffle, a quiz, and also releasing vintage vinyl they curated specially for the day. Head over and have a dig!

Rough Trade East

Where: Old Truman Brewery 91, Brick Ln, London E1 6QL

Like the other Rough Trade shops, Rough Trade East will have both live performances and DJ sets. Expect performances from Dave Bayley (Glass Animals), Japanese TV, Liv.e, Tatyana, and more. On the decks, you’ll find Conor (The BoAt Pod), Dennis Bovell, and Rebecca Vasmant. And there’ll also be a signing by Jonny Trunk. Oh, and they have tickets for All Points East Festival hidden amongst the vinyl.

RPM Music

Where: 4 Old George Yard, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 1EZ

Newcastle’s RPM is throwing a Record Store Day party with DJs, games, a raffle, and prizes. Since time flies when you’re having fun, the shop will also have bacon sandwiches in the morning and cakes in the afternoon to keep you energised enough to keep digging!

Vinyl Exchange

Where: 18 Oldham St, Manchester M1 1JN

Vinyl Exchange, one of Manchester’s best record shops and the biggest buyer and seller of vinyl in the northwest, will have DJs performing all night long. Before that, though, will be live performances from Ruma, Dream English Kid, and Mali Hayes. We know it’ll be a mint day.

Released Records

Where: Leeds Corn Exchange, Call Ln, Leeds LS1 7BR

From 1 until 9, Released Records, a record shop in Leeds, will be welcoming people into their shop to browse vinyl and enjoy DJ sets by local artists including Tight Lines, Leaf Label and Spin City. It’s free entry and you might even get to see the shop staff DJ too!

Rough Trade Bristol

Where: 3 New Bridewell, Nelson St, Bristol BS1 2QD

Bristol record shop Rough Trade will be colouring Record Store Day with indie, rock, pop, folk and more with performances running from 2 pm right until close. The shop and café open at 8 so you can enjoy a Beavertown beer as you enjoy live performances and DJ sets.

Of course, there are lots of shops across the UK that will have a fantastic itinerary for Record Store Day, but here are a few that look brilliant. Happy Record Store Day!
