303 was originally created as an extension of what was being achieved with the Cream Reunion parties. Whereas those exclusively focused on remembering the past, 303 wanted to fuse that older music with what was currently going on on modern dancefloors.
The remit was simple, in their words they dubbed it as a mission to "unify the music of the present with the grooves of the past, going one step further than simple reverential parties hailing the sounds of yesteryear by joining the dots between those halcyon days with the music of present."
Pretty bold statement, but the bookings have lived up to that, with the DJs selected, Justin Robertson, Dave Seaman and Oliver Lieb among them, all capable of stitching together the current with the past at their infrequent shows at The Williamson Tunnels, Liverpool's infamous 'rave in a cave' venue. Their next guest though excels in that arena - the one and only Mr Andrew Weatherall.
An absolute icon of dance music, Weatherall's output since the dawn of acid house can never be overstated. Whether producing Primal Scream's classic ode to Ecstasy Screamadelica, infusing St Etienne with dub in one of the greatest remixes ever made with his rework of 'Only love can break your heart' (above) or strung out techno via Sabres of Paradise, his back catalogue reads like a concise history of rave.
His status as a DJ of considerable renown remains true to this day, whether taking centre stage at festivals like Electric Elephant, playing sub 118 bpm grooves alongside Sean Johnston for hours on end under the A Love From Outer Space or knocking out stellar main room techno for the likes of Bugged Out!
Quite simply the man is electronic music royalty and this Easter 303 will be giving him free reign to prove exactly why he carries such an exalted status. He'll be supported by Mr Paul, the man who brought him to Liverpool the last time for much missed soiree Disocteca Poca (where the main image was taken), and the 303 residents.
All the listing info can be found here, including the offer to buy a ticket for both this event and their party in May with none other than Slam at the helm for a reduced rate.
