Manchester has always been a hotbed of forward thinking dance music of all sorts. And this legacy is ably carried forward by modern labels and innovators in the rainy city such as Music is Love; a new underground stable focusing on house music that promises to be forward thinking and full of depth and virtuosity.
With their philosophy established and their label’s roster already expanding outwards, the crew are taking their sound straight across the Pennines for a very special night out in Leeds.
Headlining the party is Music is Love’s first artist on release, New Jack City. Hailing from Amsterdam, the duo's new ‘Back In The Daze’ EP encompasses all aspects of a raw house sound. They may hail from Europe but perfectly capture the sounds of 90s American house and garage from the New York and New Jersey coastlines - a classic time for partying before anyone had heard of Snooki or DJ Pauly D... who we can assure you will definitely not be making an appearance. In line with this true-to-its-roots vibe, you can now grab the release on a limited, 180 gram vinyl.
For a clue into the future of this promising new label, don’t miss support from Oli Furness, putting in a live 909 set. This equally promising young talent is co-head honcho at Music is Love, and will be playing a special all-hardware set that explores the sounds he loves. Oli has previously seen releases on equally feted labels on the rise such as Music with Content, and seen his tunes receive play and support from the likes of 1Xtra.
Also making the trip over from Manchester is Sankeys favourite Angus Jefford. The other brain behind Music is Love, Angus will be digging deep for a set of swinging house gems from Chicago and Detroit that this knowledgeable young man is best known for. Further to the Music is Love action all over The Garage, you can find further partying to be had in the basement, this Friday hosted by Waxwerks who will be presenting a live show from Paris XY, whose analogue electronica takes influences from everyone from Trentemoller to LCD Soundsystem and Portishead.
You can also expect a full roster of club residents, and the usual good weekend vibes of one of Leeds’ favourite underground venues, as Beatstreet peers into the future of house for your pleasure.
