Manchester gets a delightful free shindig to look forward to in a fortnight when the Brownsfield Mill, nestled in the Piccadilly basin of the city centre, will be the location for the Canal Festival over Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th September. The line-up can call upon XFM DJs Clint Boon and Gareth Brooks, and further record playing turns from Pasta Paul, Phil Beckett, Leggit, Disco Mums and Dance Lady Dance.

Alongside these selectors there will also be a smorgasbord of the city’s most exciting up and coming new musicians, with Manchester bands taking the stage including Thugs on Wolves, Black Lights, Songs for Walter, Horses on the Move and Literature Thieves. The peckish amongst you will be able to take your pick of grub on offer on the pop-up food stalls from Kosmonaut, Ning, Las Paellaras, Stretza  and Takk (expect gourmet hot dogs, burgers, paella, noodles, wood fired pizzas, cakes and coffee) and our bosom buddies 2022NQ will be hosting a licensed bar with indoor seating.

If that wasn’t enough twelve local illustrators and street artists, including Barney Ibbotson, Arisu, Stephanie Morris, Chris Howker, Emma Reynolds, Rose Whittingham and Generic Greeting will be working all weekend designing one-off pieces of artwork, the results displayed in the 2022NQ bar before being auctioned off for the Forever Manchester charity.

As the daylight dwindles and the midnight oil comes to the fore, the gratis vibes continues at an after party at 2022NQ from 10pm – 3am where Dance Lady Dance and Disco Mums will be going head to head on the decks.
