Having worked with everyone from Imogen Heap to Brian Eno, and Four Tet to James Yorkston, Jon Hopkins is a man whose unique ear for achingly beautiful melodic textures has made him one of the most sought after producers in the last 10 years.
Jon Hopkins - Open Eye Signal
In March this year Jon Hopkins released one of the most inventive albums of the past few years. Let’s not beat around the bush, ‘Immunity’, Jon Hopkins fourth studio album, has blown wide open the world of electronic music, leaving other producers scratching their heads, taken aback and yet applauding in equal measure. Very few before have achieved such a complex mixture of styles and ideas into one cohesive sound that captures the mind and heart as much as his latest output. Laying somewhere in between modern classical, post rock, tech house, IDM and soundtrack, Jon Hopkins has created a masterpiece of modern electronica.
It’s hard to pick a highlight from 'Immunity', but ‘Form By Firelight’ shows in a nutshell how he combines all his separate styles into one beautifully emotive artform. Have a listen below...
Jon Hopkins - Form By Firelight
Receiving a staggering 8.5 on the usually hard to please Pitchfork website, and a perfect score with Mixmag, ‘Immunity’ is an album to have come from nowhere to completely astound audiences and critics. With the album said to have been written with visuals in mind, Jon Hopkins live AV set to accompany the otherworldly acidic, pulsating classical ambience is guaranteed to be a transcendental spiritual experience, dazzling the mind and spirit. Prepare to be utterly hypnotised.
As one of our favourite electronic producers, this, for our money anyway, is shaping up to be one of the finest bookings of Now Wave’s impressive career.
