The 28th of September sees one of the finest product of UK Dub culture in full effect, as the Reggae Roast continues its dominance of roots music in our nation’s capital. Plan B will be the venue for a night of ‘positive vibrations’ and rumbling bass notes, supplied by an ominous, extra heavy weight Funktion One sound system.
DJ Derek @ Attic
On the ones and twos will be a Bristolian legend and probably the coolest pensioner around - DJ Derek. Since quitting his day job as an accountant for Cadbury’s decades ago, DJ Derek turned his attention to his true passion of Rocksteady, reggae, ska, dancehall and soul music, becoming one of the most loved selectors in Bristol.
He has appeared at festivals such as Glastonbury and the Big Chill, as well as becoming an icon for a huge number of Jamaican artists and notably one of Bristol’s finest exports - Massive Attack. His genuine passion for roots music has been allayed with a dedication to sharing it, consequently making him one of the most loved selectors in the business. With his retirement planned for later this year, this will be one of the last chances to catch the man himself in action.
Trojan Sound System - Africa
He’ll be joined by the mighty Trojan label's representatives in the UK - Trojan Sound System. Fellow selectors Adam Prescott and Vibration Lab will also be in the mix, armed with encyclopedic knowledge and extensive record collections.
The atmosphere alone is worth the entry price, as the unifying spirit built by dub and roots music remains an experience unlike any other. Get down and be a part of the London's number one roots and reggae night.
