Selective Hearing’s last outing at 2022nq in Manchester was nothing short of a barnstormer (read our review here) when Loefah headlined the intimate with his dark and brooding dancefloor ready bass weight sound. With their bookings continuing in emphatic fashion Selective Hearing have returned, this time teaming up with Abstract at Leeds’ Warehouse with an even bigger line up in tow. Some of the biggest trendsetters in bass music converge on the iconic Leeds venue for a night crammed the biggest sub abusers.
Heading the line up is one of the UK garage royalty - DJ EZ. Having cut his teeth in London via hugely popular pirate radio shows that made him an underground celebrity and a tastemaker to a generation, DJ EZ has become the face of UK garage, with his incredibly slick DJing skills setting him apart from most other DJs, all of which has lead to a recent lifetime achievement nomination for the UK Bass Music Awards in association with Skiddle. If you’ve never seen the man in action, check out his skills in his appearance for Mixmag below.

He will be joined by one of the originators of dubstep - Artwork. One of his earliest releases, the massive 'Red' on Big Apple records, became the template for the likes of Benga and Skream, and now as part of Magnetic Man the three have been successful in bringing dubstep to a wider audience. Artwork in particular though has championed forward thinking routes of the music into his sets for years now, making him one of bass music's most vital players.
UK Funky main man and recent nominee in the UK Bass Music Awards as best DJ, Roska is yet another impressive attendee to the night. His distinctive style combining elements of percussive house, with low end funk and a dancefloor readiness that is as infectious as it is innovative. His sets see him traverse all manner of genres from dubstep through to house, with a high energy physical approach that has been tearing up clubs for some time now.

The quality continues with Swamp 81 favourite Mickey Pearce playing back to back with New York Transit Authority. Pearce has been dropping pure dynamite for the aforementioned Swamp 81 and Doc Daneeka’s Ten Thousand Yen imprint, and matches his skills in the studio with a genre bending approach to DJing that makes him one of the most cutting edge jock as the moment.
Similarly New York Transit Authority, the alter ego (or evil doppelganger) of dubstep giant Mensah, has seen him explore his techno savvy electro darkside. His first record 'Off the Traxx' ended up in countless top fifty charts for best dance track of 2011, and his recent follow up ‘Swarm’ on Lobster Boy has brought mind bending devastation to discerning nightclubs around the country.
With more yet to be announced, Selective Hearing’s takeover of Leeds Warehouse is proving to be a masterclass of bass music, with a scintillating line up that has us chomping at the bit. Essential business.
