Since setting up the Shogun imprint back in 2004, Friction has been responsible for putting out some of the most essential drum ‘n’ bass in the business. Exploring the full spectrum of drum ‘n’ bass possibilities, releases have regularly been breathtaking, bordering on the downright genius. The shogun posse will be arriving in full force at Leeds' Mint Warehouse, being more armed than most to deliver a non stop drum ‘n’ bass party of grandiose proportions.
Friction, Rockwell & Spectrasoul in the Mixmag DJ Lab
Label boss Friction heads up the all star line up. Having recently been nominated for the 2013 UK Bass Music Awards in association with Skiddle in the Best DJ category, Friction has added a long list of accolades that reflect on his his status as an integral part of drum ‘n’ bass royalty.
Having worked previously with label giants Hospital and Metalheadz, when he broke away and established Shogun that the drum ‘n’ bass fraternity sat up and took real notice. Ever evolving his sound to stay that one step ahead of the competition, his unique vision and refusal to stand still have meant his productions and his label have been vital components in the pushing forward the sounds of drum ‘n’ bass.
Alix Perez Essential Mix
Joining him will be label mate Alix Perez. Fresh from his hugely well received Chroma Chords EP, which married dancefloor prowess with soulful vocals and melodies, underpinned with tough, no holds barred beats and bass to an outstanding reception from the hard to please drum n bass family.
Like Friction, he cut his teeth on mammoth labels like V Recordings and Metalheadz, but again, once he signed exclusively for Shogun, his reputation and importance skyrocketed, heralding in a genuine innovator, an artisan always looking to expand his sound and move his beloved genre into exciting new directions.
The exhilarating presence of Rockwell will also be felt as the London based producer gets behind the decks. A self confessed perfectionist, Rockwell is a man that has dedicated an ungodly amount of time to honing his craft, with meticulous production and painstakingly beautiful arrangements adorning each and every piece of music he builds. His sets are a reliably eclectic affair, always looking to excite, challenge but ultimately thrill his audience with his genre spanning, bass heavy workouts.
With Spectrasoul, Icicle, Linguistics, Total Science and J:Kenzo being some of the other major players at the Shogun showcase, expect an unparalleled display of drum ‘n’ bass might, curated by one of the scene’s leading imprints. Essential.
