Also known as Rebel MC, real name Michael West was first thrust into the limelight with the success of his first project - Double Team, combining Hip Hop with Dance for one of the first times ever.
Not content with the pop rap style he had forged though, he set about reinventing himself entirely for his second album Black Meaning Good. The album combined underground hardcore and techno with hefty dub basslines to create a precursor for the Jungle movement. He had successfully combined traditional Reggae musicians with modern dance music, and people loved it.
His advancement of this sound lead to his name becoming synonymous with the very best in the fledgling Jungle movement. Gaining ever increased recognition throughout his career, he decided to take time off from his craft until a trip to Ethiopia in 2007 (whilst exploring the origins of his Rastafarian faith) suddenly reinvigorated him to return to the music he had left behind.
Still riding on the back of that new lease of life, his determination, wealth of knowledge and unbridled passion for Jungle and Dub music will be on full display at Mint Warehouse, and no doubt prove to be an unmissable experience.
With the bill also featuring appearances from Skeptical, La La & The Boo Ya, Congo Dubz & Marley MC, Northern Scum featuring Marf, Loz Contreras, and Colossus, this edition of the Mighty Jungle Jam is shaping up to be one of the most impressive Jungle spectacles yet.
Featuring a full Funktion One sound system, an outside bar, a jerk Chicken BBQ, horns, whistles and incredible decor, the ultimate in the Carnival experience is about to take place at the Mint Warehouse, Leeds on the 31st May.
