Each year Josh Wink showcases the sound of his Ovum Recordings imprint at Space. The event occurs just once a year and gives Josh and his label mates the chance to fully represent the label's true meaning - so you know it's going to be special. And special it was.
After a brilliant night at the Ovum showcase, we caught up with label boss Josh Wink for a chat.
Hi Josh, how’s life at the moment?
Amazing. Great summer so far and great being a new father!
What would you say is the secret behind your success?
I imagine a strong integrity! Following my heart.
How did you come up with the label name ‘Ovum’?
It came about when my ex partner King was having his first child. Ovum, being an egg of life. And I wanted to put out life music.
Is there anybody in particular that has inspired you over the years?
It's hard to say really, as I feel I get inspired indirectly through my life experiences. However, in the long run... Kraftwerk, Mr. Fingers and Lil' Louis are huge for me wanting to make music!
When did you first come to Ibiza and what was it like as an experience?
I think it was in 1993 or 94 and it was amazing. Such a naive and innocent time on the island and in dance music. I miss it.
What are your top three tunes at the moment?
Dirty Channels & Bugsy "Alone" (Ovum), Technasia "Bastielle Days" (Ovum) Tom Middleton "Penrose Stairs" (Ovum)
What’s the trickiest situation you’ve ever found yourself in?
Having to tell a friend that his mother was making moves on me! Ouch.
