Q&A with Club Clique ahead of their 7th birthday

This Friday sees Manchester club night Clique turn 7, with a birthday party at their regular home of The Deaf Institute. We asked them 7 questions ahead of the event.

How would you describe Clique in three words?

An ecstatic disco.

Where and how did it all begin?

It started as a late-night drunken idea, at a club called Club Suicide. It grew into a basement in Joshua Brooks in 2005 and went from there!

You've had a great seven years of awards, special guests, venue changes and more. What have been some of your personal highlights?

Highlights would include LCD Soundsystem showing up un-announced and DJing for free in 2010, Aeroplane's last UK DJ set as a duo (also in 2010), Hot Chip's singer doing an impromptu 'gig' in 2011, our first night at Deaf Institute in 2012, the annual birthdays and Xmas parties, all the guests, the kids, etc.

What's the most ridiculous thing that's ever happened while you've been DJing?

Possibly Florence from Florence And The Machine dancing on the table we were actually DJing on, as we were actually DJing. We had to gently bring her back down! Doesn't happen every day.

Earlier this year you moved from Mint Club to the Deaf Institute. How have you settled into your new home?

People really like it there. Fits like a sequinned glove.

How would you describe the Clique crowd?

Upbeat, friendly, colourful, stylish.

Give us three songs that will definitely get an airing at the birthday party to get us in the mood...

Azealia Banks '212'

Prince 'I Wanna Be Your Lover' (Dimitri From Stoke Mix)

Janelle Monae Vs Nancy Sinatra 'Tightrope Made For Walkin'.

Thank you!

Club Clique 7th Birthday, Friday 31st August, Deaf Institute, £2 adv, free cocktail for first 100 people.
