Ry Cooder and Nick Lowe have announced a unique and intimate 14-date tour of Europe in June July 2009. Cooder and Lowe’s working relationship began in the late 1980s, and following two benefit performances together at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco earlier this year – featuring a selection of work from both their celebrated careers - the pair have decided to take their show on the road. They will be joined by Joachim Cooder on drums and vocalist Juliette Commagere.
Earlier this year Ry Cooder completed his acclaimed Grammy-nominated California trilogy (which began with 2005’s Chavez Ravine and 2007’s My Name Is Buddy) with the release of I, Flathead (Nonesuch/Perro Verde Records), an album of music by the fictional musician Kash Buk and his band the Klowns, characters in Cooder’s 95-page novella. Cooder’s most recent releases are The UFO Has Landed (Rhino), an anthology of his work spanning 38 years produced by Joachim Cooder, and Buena Vista Social Club At Carnegie Hall (World Circuit).
Nick Lowe’s career began 40 years ago and his 2007 acclaimed album, At My Age (Proper Records), showcases his own unique brand of soul-soaked country pop and displays, with his signature polish, the sublime, linear connection between country, rhythm and blues and rock n' roll.
Nick Lowe has a new best of collection just released, “Quiet Please….The Best of Nick Lowe” (Proper Records|) a career spanning 2 CD set and limited edition DVD of 9 rarely seen videos and entire 2007 concert.
