Sitting pretty just over half way through their #1 second album, ‘I Can’t Stop This Feeling I’ve Got’ is Razorlight’s fourth single.
Opening with the distinctive heartbeat of Andy Burrow’s bass drum and bass player Carl Dalemo’s resonant counterpoint, ‘I Can’t Stop This Feeling I’ve Got’ is perhaps a master class in classic song writing. Co-written by both Johnny Borrell and guitarist Björn Ågren the song is a poignant showcase of Borrell’s strong and more mature vocals, coupled with Ågren’s intelligent guitar parts. Both haunting and magical, for Borrell the song represents the heart of the album.
Always controversial yet undeniably one of the UK’s biggest bands, Razorlight have now sold over 2.2 million albums and every release has proved to be a monster radio hit. Previous singles have consistently topped the charts and are still in the top ten of the airplay charts; in the case of ‘America’ the band’s first #1 single it is still being heavily played across Europe and the UK months after it’s release.
The band’s live performances are stellar. So quick was Razorlight’s ascension from Camden indie hopefuls to multi-platinum, arena selling artists that the band barely had time to leave the UK. Late 2006 saw Razorlight make some of their first forays into Europe and by March the band will have played to over 100,000 people in just 12 weeks.
As 2007 rolls on, Razorlight are entering a fascinating second chapter. A rock’n’roll band too good to not be in the mainstream, they’ve hit celebrity status at home with Johnny becoming a Jagger-esque icon instantly recognisable in his all white stage clothes. There are stories of bloody incidents and band excess littering the tabloid press. When Beatles producer Sir George Martin needs a voice for a live performance of the end of The Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’, Johnny gets a call. When Courtney Love needs the best young drummer of his generation, Andy Burrows gets a call. When politicians are looking for the youth angle on green issues, its Johnny’s dressing room they head for.
Its all fuel for the band’s onward journey. They’re selling out shows across Europe. They have the respect of their peers and predecessors.
"They’re one of the few bands who make me feel inspired to go out and play a gig" says Noel Gallagher.
"They make me feel that I have to try harder," says Brandon Flowers.
"I’m a fan. ‘America’ is an amazing song, and it should be on the radio everywhere." says Bono.
