Saturday Feb 22nd will witness Relapse reach another milestone in its lauded career - its third birthday. The last few years has seen the tireless Mancunian drum n bass and breakcore fetishist grow exponentially, with it now well into its residency at the iconic Sound Control venue, regularly providing three floors of the finest in hip hop, jungle, crossbreed, future beats and good old slammin' jungle.
With this being its third birthday, Relapse has gone all out with its guest headliners, securing a reliably intelligent line up for what promises to be one of its biggest nights yet. Heading up proceedings will be the mighty Dub Phizix alongside MC and collaborator Strategy.
The local Manchester producer has been tearing up the drum n bass scene for a number of years now with his stripped back, snarling low end output. Tracks like 'Marka' (below) and 'Never Been' have seen him introduce a darkly addictive minimal edge to the drum n bass template, making him one of the most distinctive producers around at the moment.
Dub Phizix will be playing a 90 minute set for his Relapse debut, as will ANT TC1, who comes armed with an exclusive Dispatch recordings set. Having set up the label back in 2001 alongside Hidden Agenda, Dispatch has gone on to represent a benchmark in quality drum n bass, with producers like Shy FX, LTJ Bukem and Total Science all snapping up the labels output, and in particular that of ANT TC1.
Therapy go head to head with Relapse for the second time in the second room, which if you'll remember from their first duel back in October last year, represents a killer partnership. A favourite of both the nights - The Teknoist prepares to return for another powerhouse performance laced with exclusive cuts from his new long player 'Tank Alligator'. Expect his usual twisted selection of drum n bass, breakcore and jungle to tear through the Sound Control sound system in inimitable fashion.
SEO evading Audio makes a rare Manchester performance too complete with three deck set up, whilst scorching hip hip front runner Pete Cannon makes his long overdue Relapse debut in room three. It's another monster party from the Relapse crew - one hell of a way to celebrate three years of irreverent party starting. Head here for your Relapse tickets.
