We all love a longing look into the past, and they don’t get much better than when we do it with music. Getting misty-eyed about the records we’ve loved and the periods of time they represented is hands down one of the best things you can do with your time. Each weekend plenty of people huddle round CD players or YouTube streaming computer screens going back musically; and a fair few more go out to a club to do exactly the same.
Central to that has been clubnight Retro, who have been revising dance music’s greatest moments for clubbers for almost as long as the genre has been around. Fancy throwing your hands in the air to come classic Chicago House, shaking your rump to early Detroit Techno, or getting the old fist pumping for some old school hardcore? Retro will drop everything from Ten City to 2 Bad Mice and this weekend they will be back in the town where it all started in the late eighties; a homecoming party guaranteed to warm the cockles.
If that wasn’t enough Retro’s eternal mainstay resident Paul Taylor is celebrating his birthday at the showcase at Alter Ego, with more dates lined up for the clubnight here.
