Well it was a weekend full of birthday shenanigans this past Easter, especially in Leeds. However none more prestigious than The Warehouse illustrious 34th birthday, a landmark birthday not just for the venue, but for the UK music scene. The club is the oldest dance club in the country and it was an amazing celebration.
In the past year we have seen the likes of legendary acts such as Basement Jaxx, Todd Terry, and David Morales all play the historic venue. For the birthday however, the bar was raised even further with Belgian electro duo 2ManyDJs taking centre stage for what was a combination of underground techno and heavy drops, all in their unique mashup style that kept the audience in check. They gave off a certain aura and pleasure that oozed through the club.
Lighting and strobes filled the dance floor marrying perfectly with the hands in the air moments generated by 2ManyDJs. The crowd were in a complete frenzy throughout, the backdrop was filled by the huge big screen that has been one of the main factors in the venues revamp. For the full two hour set we were amazed by the mixing and clarity within the set, alongside some classic edits we can come to know from the duo, it was a perfect fit for the club's birthday.
Local legend Paul Woolford also didn't let up blending a more eclectic mix of techno keeping the crowd going till the early hours. The Planet E stalwart who rose to the scene in 2006 with his huge 'Erotic Discourse' track left no stone unturned using every element within the punchy sound system.
Finally Matt Cooper finished the event off with more of the same, famous for his James Zabiela style effects within his mixing, Matt finished the soiree off perfectly to a round of applause from the stunned audience.
It was a truly great way to complete a birthday event that was only hindered by how busy it was, but, other than that it was a joy to be a part of. Who's up for the 35th birthday next year? I know I am.
