We made our way through the cold, damp streets of Manchester to attend the hottest ticket in town last weekend, that being disco club night Stevie Wonderland's second birthday party with special guests Ed Banger glitteratti Breakbot and Irfane providing the funk-fuelled tunes.

The night got off to a flying start at Manchester Academy as tonight was no ordinary disco but a skating jam roller disco, that’s right... a full blown roller disco, complete with a gigantic disco ball to boot!

The first DJ to hit the decks was local Sankeys and Homoelectric resident Will Tramp!, who brought some classic disco bangers to the roller ravers.

When the clock struck midnight it was time to bring out the big guns, Parisian electro popwizz Breakbot and his partner in crime Irfane.

The disco connoisseur's influences ranged all the way from seventies dancefloor favourites to late nineties, early 21st century French house. Their set started off with one of Stevie Wonder's seminal tracks 'All I Do', which fitted the party perfectly and gradually worked their way through some all time disco favourites that included Chic's fantastic 'Freak Out', Prince's '1999' and Earth, Wind and Fire's 'Let's Groove'.

After a few more funk classics it was time for the lads to switch it up a gear and play some recent electro bangers, like Skream's blissed out mix of Duke Dumont's 'Need U' (above) and Erol Alkan's epic rework of Metronomy's 'The Bay', then finally came the chance to spin some of Ed Banger's back catalogue, starting off with fellow Parisian producer Boston Bun's 'Housecall' and even their very own loved up synth ballad 'Baby I'm Yours' which went down a storm.

As the dancing and excess carried on throughout the night so did the party anthems, as the last half of the duos set seemed to be full of forgotten French house gems.

Daft Punk's defining 'Around the World', Stardust's Ibiza banger 'Music Sounds Better With You' and Thomas Bangalter's sleazy 'Club Soda' all got a rinse but it was Alan Braxe and Fred Falke's tune 'Intro' (above) and Cassius' smash '1999' (below) that were the highlights of the night.

It was then up to Stevie Wonderland's very own DJs to finish off the nights proceedings with Prince crowd pleaser 'I Wanna Be Your Lover' that got all the euphoric, loved up students wanting to keep the party going.
