Local outfit Horsebeach quietly released their self titled debut last year. They opened proceedings a stones throw away from Piccadilly Records who named the record as one of their albums of 2014.
Rather than moulding themselves on the cocksure bands of the nineties, the heartfelt melancholy created by Ryan Kennedy and his three band mates is unashamedly influenced by cautious sounds of New Jersey's Real Estate. They've even got their own take on 'April's Song' with their homage to the instrumental, 'June' (below).
The set was tight, inoffensive and subtle. They recreated the relaxed reverb of their charming debut almost faultlessly, including renditions of 'Faded Eyes' (below) and 'Yesterdays'.
Next, Bristolian garage rock band Black Honey turned the gracious introduction on its head. Led by Izzy Bee, she introduced herself with a high pitched scream before launching into their brand of fuzzy rock. She's a commanding and seductive frontwoman.
Later, Chicago's youthful gang Twin Peaks brought the night to a head. They attracted a mass of pogoing bodies, all taking advantage of the visit of a much hyped band who, despite their adolescence, draw influences from early British punk to The Stooges, stage-diving included.
They ripped through tracks such as the infectious mid-tempo 'Making Breakfast' and contagious 'I Found A New Way', both off 2014's release, Wild Onion. Their energy was as inspiring as their story.
Vocalist and lead guitarist Clay Frankel was the star of the show. Together, he and his bandmates were joyfully scruffy, playing fast, loud and loose.
