Review: Warehouse re-opening with Kerri Chandler

Last weekend saw London venue Warehouse re-launch following a period of refurbishment - with new owners, a sharp new sound system and a focus on underground acts. Fiora Lopez went along to see how it measures up.

So another summer is over, which usually leaves a tear in the eyes of party goers. But not when you're a fully fledged member of the inventive London music scene. The capital has seen many a club come and go over the years, but only the cream rises to the top. Warehouse can safely say it's had its up and downs, but a re-opening this past weekend certainly proved it's a contender to stick around for quite some time.

Visiting a new club is always an appealing prospect, but when you add Kerri Chandler to the fray and a new sound and lighting system for the US house legend to sink his skills into, your nigh on stupid to turn it down.

A new lighting rig takes prominence in the club, being somewhat of a focal point and centre piece for the venue. The green rays that bounced off the brickwork married perfectly with the subtle tones of the residents Jaxx and Danny Bayley's deep house set. The vibrant, tight mix was a perfect warm up for the main man himself to grace the stage.

The legend that is Kerri Chandler is very partial to an extended set - and here he made no exception, keeping his distinctive Detroit beats going until 7.30am. His mixing itself was something of an experience, punctuated by the ever present bombs of good friend MK with his huge 'Burning', and the huge Julio Bashmore track 'Au Seve'.

The larger than life character worked the crowd into a frenzy, and they certainly played their part - warming the venue nicely for the huge line ups to come.

Hands in the air moments were aplenty, and the punchy sound system attracted everyone from the terrace onto the dance-floor like a good system should do. It's safe to say that the owners and promoters had done their homework ahead of the opening soiree, and with a well laid our venue it was easy for everyone to get around. A job well done if you ask me.

Look out for other big events coming up in the next month with Lee Foss, Filthy Rich and more.
