One of the most iconic clubs in Manchester, Sankeys, has announced its intention to close its doors this coming May.

From humble beginnings, Sankeys (originally Sankeys Soap) exceeded all expectations, and became the flagship for underground dance music in Manchester, quickly evolving into one of the most sought after venues for clubbers and promoters in the city.
With rumours flying around for some time about the future of 2010’s World’s Best Club (DJ Mag), a statement was released today on Facebook, aiming to answer everyone’s questions.
Tuesday May 7th will see’s Sankeys final event for the summer, as it plans to indefinitely close its doors, concentrating its efforts in Sankeys Ibiza. 13 years of cutting edge dance music and great nights will culminate in an all day fond farewell to one of dance music’s most loved venues.
David Vincent, club owner of Sankeys since 2000 explains, “I have decided to close Sankeys in Manchester indefinitely this summer as I focus my attention on our third year in Ibiza. I want our Ibiza project to be the best club in the world, just like what we have achieved previously in Manchester, as I get the feeling this could be our summer.”
He added: “I need my production and staff from Manchester to come to Ibiza with me to achieve this goal and therefore both clubs cannot be open at the same time.”
The future remains uncertain however, as David remains cagey about what to expect at the end of the summer: “Who knows when we will be back in Manchester, or if we ever will be back, or what comes next in this great city I love.”
This certainly comes as a shock to most, with nights remaining reliably popular, and with huge headline acts frequenting the venue to often sell out crowds. However with big plans for the Sankeys brand in Ibiza, it seems a choice needed to be made, much to the loss of Manchester and the north of England. With nothing set in stone though, there is a chance we could be seeing the return of the much loved club come autumn time, although that is looking slim.
David continued “I want this current chapter of the club’s history to end with a spectacular party, so we are rounding off the May bank holiday with a huge line-up. It’s an 12 hour marathon set from 1pm to 1am on Monday 6th, with a stellar cast of names and the Sankeys Manchester residents, in the spirit of our epic 12-hour Tenaglia sessions.”
With this possibly being the last chance to see the club in action for sometime, we expect an all out, no holds barred, sell out party, celebrating the wonderful moments that Sankeys has provided for the public over the years.
The final chapter was feature industry heavyweights Joris Voorn, tINI, Enzo Siragusa, Darius and Jozef K, however after an overwhelming and tickets being sold out in superquick time, Sankeys have added a final Closing Afterparty. This will star Darius Syrossian, Enzo Siragusa, Finnebassen, Hot Since 82, Leon, Pirupa, OD Muzique plus Special Guests. This really will be the last chance to be a part of the unique Sankeys experience.
David finished by saying “ I want to say huge thanks all of the DJs, live acts, promoters and agents that I have worked with, and all of the Sankeys staff who have helped shape the club during the last 13 years. Most importantly, Sankeys simply wouldn’t exist without our loyal crowd who have made us what we are today, and I want to say thanks to everyone of you. Finally, all I can say right now about what happens next is quite simply: watch this space....”
We at Skiddle.com thank Sankeys for all the amazing times, and look forward to everything that Sankeys Ibiza has in store for us.
