The explosion of young talent and fresh creativity on the UK jazz scene will not have escaped the notice of anyone who has a keen interest in the genre. With a brand new all day and night festival, Sheffield's Yellow Arch Studios will celebrate this exciting new movement, which stands as the most significant within the genre to have occurred here since the 1960s.
Yellow Arch Future Jazz Festival will take place on Sunday 5th May from 3pm – 1am and organisers will bring a wealth of rising talent from around the UK to play across its two stages. Electronic-soul quartet Noya Rao, extensive Leeds combo Têtes de Pois, who add hip hop and afrobeat into their jazz sound, the edgy improvisations of Vipertime and the piano-driven Dave Burgoyne Trio will play on one stage, accompanied by international guest, Australian singer and pianist Allysha Joy.
The second stage will hold more of a hip hop, jazz-fusion and funk sound and will feature local hip hop star Otis Mensah, Mancunian band Lyla, hip hop DJ The Young Wizard plus Jackie Moonbather and Julia Ann. DJs Chris Welch, Pretty Pretty Good, Mizik Nou, Leroy and others will play between sets and into the nights and there'll be decent street food, craft beer and cocktails on hand too.
