Newcastle house night Shindig are set to end their long association with Foundation nightclub when they move to a new city centre venue in July.

The night, which has seen many Saturday nights and Sunday mornings in its ten years at the club, will say a final goodbye on July 9th before relocating and reopening its doors at Digital (currently named Powerhouse) located at the Centre of Life on July 30th.

Stonelove, Wax On and Hed Kandi will also be moving to the new club.

The last ever Shindig at Foundation will feature Danny Rampling, Scott Bradford and Scooby.

A Shindig spokesperson said: “On Saturday the 9th Of July 2005 Shindig say a fond farewell to Foundation. Since the days of The Riverside Shindig has clocked up 10 memorable years residing in this venue but the time has come for change.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support, without the loyalty of our crowd Shindig would never have lasted the distance.”

Speaking about the new venue, they added: “Spread over two floors Digital will be the most exciting club to open in the U.K this Millennium.

“Digital boasts four dance stacks of Funktion One Sound. This incredible sound system is the only one of its kind in the country and one of only 3 worldwide.”Powerhouse and Zinc bar have been purchased by the team behind Stereo, Tokyo, Stonelove and Bulletproof.

A spokesman for the team commented: “This for us has been the end game of 15 years very hard work to be able to host our nights in a quality space that we can control all aspects of.

“The main club will feature a 1450 capacity club, including a 400 capacity room two. The club will be refurbished, with new bars, new high end DJ box, live stage etc. The main feature will be a state of the art soundsystem never before witnessed in Newcastle, in fact it will become the undisputed best soundsystem in the UK.
”The former Zinc bar will be heavily remodelled into a brand new 4am license club, with a bar area downsatirs and a 350 club space upstairs with live stage facilities.”

The opening line up in the main club will be Stonelove every Thursday, Wax-On every Friday and Shindig every Saturday with more nights to follow.

However, despite worries about the long term future of Foundation following the departure of its number one night, its location of slightly out of the city centre and the fact that flats are being built opposite, trance night Promise and funky house night Smile will remain there for the foreseeable future.

Mark Deakin, promoter for both nights, said: “Our immediate future is at Foundation.
We have bookings until Christmas in already.

 “Foundation is not closing.”

He also hinted that Promise, which is currently on monthly Fridays, may well take over the Saturday slot left by Shindig.
