Having celebrated its 25th anniversary as Scotland's seminal outdoor roots music festival this year, Knockengorroch Festival has, to nobody's surprise, announced they will be returning once again in 2024, and tickets will be available for purchase from this Monday!
Located deep in the Southern Uplands in a river valley on Knockengorroch farm, the festival is a melting pot of world, folk, fusion and dub reggae with electronica, hip-hop and drum n bass thrown in for good measure. But it isn't just about the music. Knockengorroch also has cabaret, spoken word, comedy and dance all take place across its five stages. Plus, the site has recently been awarded Dark Skies status, meaning it's one of the best places on the planet to see the stars.
The 2023 edition of the festival saw an awe-inspiring and diverse lineup that featured the likes of Zentone, a collaboration of the two most legendary dub bands in France; Zenzile and High Tone; nine-piece funk band Cut Capers; Knockengorroch favourites Old Blind Dogs, who opened the first edition of Knockengorroch back in June 1998; and the mighty Mungo’s Hi-Fi, who provided festival revellers with a complete sound system and their unique take on ska, reggae, dancehall and dubstep.
Other names included the Yiddish Twist Orchestra, violin master Akram Abdulfattah, The Langan Band, Dowdelin, Sheelanagig and The Drystones; all delivering an eclectic mix of genres - from traditional Celtic folk and Middle Eastern music to modern jazz, reggae, dancehall, dubstep and more.
So, if there was even a shred of doubt about securing your tickets before a lineup is out, then you can rest easy knowing that the festival continually delivers.
Furthermore, suitability matters a lot to the organisers, a family who either live or grew up at Knockengorroch. Such initiatives include the Discee Centre which equates sustainable, local food production with music, art and talks; working with Oceanallover for the first time with a commission highlighting the beauty and mystery of the adder, a species whose numbers are rapidly and alarmingly declining; DIY Knock, which is a chance to come down to the farm on-site and meet like-minded people whilst engaging in outdoor conservation, building and creative work.
So, make sure to sign up to get the first chance at tickets for Knockengorroch Festival 2024, it's a whole world unto itself and one you may not want to leave.
