Hi everyone, can each of you describe your DJ sets in 3 words.
Lucy Locket: Dramatic disco strings.
Jamie Bull: Carefully constructed celebration.
Holestar: Shake shake shake!
Trash-O-Rama: Clever dutty queercore.
The Lovely Jonjo: Vocal bouncy indiequeen.
Will Tramp!: Throbbing electronic tops-off. Is that four?
What is the most ridiculous thing that has happened to you in a nightclub?
Holestar: Being asked to play Grace Jones, while playing Grace Jones.
The Lovely Jonjo: I had something similar, I had Geri Halliwell demanding I play some 'black Music' while Prince 'Controversy' was playing. Another that still makes me smile was this really cute lad dancing by the booth all night a little worse for wear, and for ages he kept coming over and trying to ask for something. An hour later of a quite banging electro set he came and asked if i could 'wap on a bit of Ocean Colour Scene'.
Trash-O-Rama: We had a drunk girl at Legends asking for a double vodka and coke at the DJ booth. We told her this was the DJ booth, she came back two minutes later and asked the same thing.
Lucy Locket: The last club I DJed, someone brought their Staffordshire Bull Terrier along with them. The worst thing was though, the dog didn't look that fussed about my carefully constructed underground disco set and I'm not even sure he paid in.
Will Tramp!: The police raided a club whilst I was playing. The feds clearly had a penchant for 90s rap because when I played KRS One's 'Sound of Da Police' one of them sensed the funny situation and threw some comedy gang signs and did a little pseudo breakdance. They/we got a massive round of applause whilst they proceeded to bust people for illegal substances. Surreal scenes. I keep a few police related tracks in my serato folder for when places get raided just in case.
Jamie Bull: Mine is getting into a club if that counts? I was with a group of friends going to a club, decided to stop at McDonalds on the way. Some boozy meathead blokes spotted that one of the guys in our group was wearing nail varnish (oh the controversy!) and started to give him grief. As the nail varnished boy stood up for himself the McDonalds staff sensed a bit of queer bashing was about to ensue and called the police. We were then whisked off in a riot van and driven up to the door of the club and ushered in without having to pay. Result! Nothing quite beats a police escort if you want to make a grand entrance.
What is a 'must' tune you'll be playing on Saturday?
The Lovely Jonjo: Disclosure 'Control' (Joe Goddard remix) - massively in love with this tune.
Jamie Bull: Moon Runner 'Interactive Track'
Trash-O-Rama: Mr Oizo ft Carmen 'Castro Toodoo'
Lucy Locket: Loleatta Holloway 'Seconds'. God I miss that woman.
Holestar: As I'm doing a pop set, it'd be Kim Wilde 'Kids in America'. Always a guaranteed floor stomper.
Will Tramp!: Bicep 'Vision Of Love' forthcoming on their new label. It's a right shuffley little scamp and perfect for the late night disenfranchised youth of Manchester.
And finally, if you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?
Jamie Bull: The power to manipulate time. I would love a couple of extra hours a day to get everything done! A sneaky peep at next week's lottery numbers wouldn't go amiss either.
The Lovely Jonjo: I think it would have to be the perv's choice of being invisible.
Will Tramp!: Invisible. I'd get up to all kinds of mischief whilst making loads of money and exposing naughty people.
Trash-O-Rama: Body part substitution. The ability to replace one's limbs or other body parts with those of another, in particular the brain, which we always seem to leave bits of in Legends after every HomoEectric!
Holestar: The power to eradicate homo and transphobia.
Lucy Locket: To fight injustice and wrongdoing via the medium of Ashford and Simpson songs.
