When artists have adopted a specific genre and shaped their sound around it, to see them play an alternative set unrelated to them is not only refreshing, but fun to be a part of. Mixmag recently pulled off an Alter Ego event which saw High Contrast play Northern Soul and Jackmaster play UK Funk, giving audiences a taste of their broad musical appreciation.
Skiddle Mix 084 - The Squatters (Ministry of Sound/Get Twisted) by Skiddle on Mixcloud
In a similar fashion, Leeds based duo The Squatters are gearing up for a special one-off throwback electro set in Leeds this weekend and to prep us for the debauchery ahead, we asked the lads to deliver a mix to give us an idea on what we could expect from it.
The pair are playing at the To:gether event on the Filth stage along with Micky Slim, and although duo normally release quality, bass-heavy house chunks on labels such as Ministry of Sound and Get Twisted, you can expect full blown 'fidget' sounds (listen above to see what we mean). Filled with music from the likes of Fake Blood, Crookers and Benny Benassi, this mix is a welcome blast for the past!
