Each week across the summer we've been looking at the names who are going to be big over the next few years. These are our tips for the headliners of tomorrow who still have another level that they can reach. This week we'll be highlighting the one and only Ewan McVicar.
The rising Scottish DJ has had a monumental year so far, with one of the highlights being Pavilion Festival in Ayr, which McVicar threw in his hometown of Ayr. It was all about McVicar bringing the artists who inspired him over to a location that is often missed by the festival circuit.
It involved sets from names such as Skream, Kettama, Optimo and of course a set from the main man himself. McVicar is determined to put Ayr on the map when it comes to electronic music and the first edition of the festival was a resounding success.
In terms of McVicar's success so far, he first came to prominence after releasing 'Tell Me Something Good' which was awarded the 'Electronic Track of the Year' award from BBC Radio 1 in 2021. Since then, McVicar's profile has snowballed in popularity and remixed popular songs from electronic music history such as Joe Goddard's 'Gabriel'.
What you can see from McVicar's career so far is a clear journey of experimentation. Unafraid to mix styles and influences, he has reached wider borders than those of electronic music and in doing so we have been witnessing an artist grow right in front of our eyes.
His latest single 'Groove Thang' is out now and it was Radio 1's Hottest Record. It was already a fan favourite from the DJ's live sets, full of pounding energy it is the type of single that stays with you. Whilst McVicar may have headlined some stages already in his career, there's no reason why he can't go on to bigger and better things.
There are murmurings of a debut album in the works, which means that it is an incredibly exciting time to be a fan of Ewan McVicar. The future is looking very bright and we can't wait to see what comes next. If you want to catch him live this year then take a look here.
