Skiddle's Open Goal: A Weekly Roundup of Football news and events

Here's our roundup of the latest weekend of football action.

Date published: 21st Feb 2022

It was an absolutely huge weekend of Premier League action that saw the title race become reignited. Manchester City looked like they were sailing towards another title but after a recent draw with Southampton, things got suddenly worse after they lost to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham have now done the double over City and this 3-2 victory was absolutely breathtaking entertainment. Spurs taking the lead early on through January signing Kulisevski, City equalised through Gundogan in the first half. Then Harry Kane stole in-between City's centre backs to fire a volley home.

As the game headed into extra time, City equalised through a penalty which was put away by Mahrez. Yet, the game was not dead with Kane scoring a header in the 95th minute to give Spurs a deserved victory. It was a great relief for Liverpool who had beaten Norwich 3-1 earlier in the day thanks to goals from Mane, Salah and their most recent signing Luis Diaz.

Should they win their game in hand against Leeds, Liverpool will only be three points behind league leaders Manchester City. In other news, Burnley got a vital and emphatic 3-0 win over Brighton, Watford managed to pick up their first three points under Roy Hodgson and Southampton beat Everton.
