Skiddle's Future Headliners: Blondshell
Blondshell is our latest future headliner...
Date published: 6th Jul 2023
Each week on Skiddle's Future Headliners we pick the names who we feel could go on to much bigger things in the next few years. So far we've had names such as Nia Archives, Romy and Heartworms, as we aim to get a good mixture of dance music, pop music and more.
This week we're highlighting Los Angeles-based artist Blondshell, the project of Sabrina Teitelbaum who delves into some of the cathartic indie rock that we've heard in recent years. If you're a fan of 90's band such as Pavement and The Breeders then you'll definitely be interested in Blondshell.
She released her debut self-titled album in April and it features some of the best guitar licks that you'll hear all year. Her songs brilliantly build from verse to chorus, usually igniting to life at any given moment into cathartic hooks which linger in an overhanging sense of discontent.
There's a lot for Blondshell to be mad about too, spending time across the album dealing with sh*t men, unhealthy repetitive cycles and terrible sex. What we get is a document of the dirtier details of being a young adult, it isn't all bad though as there are times when you'll be instantly drawn to Teitelbaum's sharp and wicked sense of humour, which can be self-deprecating and acutely ironic.
Her debut album has given her a lot to build off, as she's clearly a seriously talented writer who can write hooks capable of being chanted back by delighted festival crowds. She has recently been touring in Europe and was met with positive reviews at festivals such as Primavera Sound.
Later in 2023, she'll be touring across the US and we can't wait to see what her plans are beyond that. It has been a quick rise over the past year and now, armed with one of the best debut albums of the year we predict more and more people will be catching on. Make sure you hear her songs 'Veronica Mars', 'Joiner' and 'Sepsis'.
