In the end, it wasn't to be for the Lionesses. Losing to Spain by a very narrow margin on Sunday, they had to settle for second place at the World Cup. Carmona's brilliant low drive enough to separate the two teams, England had something to celebrate in a penalty save from Mary Earps but at the end of the day couldn't find a final pass as Spain were the better side.

Spare a thought for Carmona too, who found out after the match that her father had sadly passed away. There are plenty of positives for England though and they'll be looking to be there again at the next World Cup. The Premier League was back in action this weekend, with plenty of surprises happening.

The Friday night game saw Nottingham Forest claim a late 2-1 win over Sheffield United thanks to a Chris Wood header. It could be a vital win so early in the season with both sides expected to be towards the bottom end of the table. Liverpool hosted Bournemouth, with the away side taking an early lead thanks to a poor first touch from Alexander-Arnold.

In an incident-packed game, Mac Allister was sent off for a late tackle that was probably more of a yellow and Salah missed a penalty but scored the rebound as the game finished 3-1 to Liverpool. Brighton look incredible yet again this season with a 4-1 win over Wolves where they completely overran their opponents. Solly March must be in the England contention with his form over the past year.

Tottenham hosted Manchester United in a game that looked too close to call before kick off and it stayed that way throughout the first half. But in the second, Tottenham took the reigns and United looked poor, second best to everything. Goals from Sarr and a Martinez own goal gave the London side a deserved win and optimism about life after Kane.

Manchester City narrowly beat Newcastle in a game where everyone looked knackered in the second half. The away side never had much bite though, with Ederson rarely troubled. Brentford looked excellent in a 3-0 away win at Fulham, helped out by some slack defending from the home side.

The most played fixture in English football, Aston Villa vs Everton didn't look like a competition at all. The home side dominated the entire game, running out 4-0 winners. Everton were shambolic, summarised in the fourth goal where Ashley Young (a terrible signing) threw the ball straight to Duran, who went past Keane like he wasn't there and cooly placed the ball in the net. It will be anther season close to relegation for The Toffees.

The best game of the weekend was the constant back and forth between West Ham and Chelsea. The Hammers took the lead through an Aguerd header, before Chelsea struck back with a smart finish from Chukwuemka. The second half saw The Hammers take the lead through a powerful Antonio shot.

Then, record signing Moises Caicedo came on for one of the worst debuts in recent memory, constantly giving the ball away. There was a sending off for Aguerd, picking up a second yellow for a late challenge, which increased the Chelsea pressure. But with players like Mudryk they never looked like scoring, slipping before one shot and then managing to send what looked like an easy volley almost out for a corner. Then, Caicedo crowned his debut with a foul in the box, giving Paqueta the chance to make the score 3-1 from the spot. Spending over a billion in three windows on your squad means that anything other than a title win should be seen as an absolute failure for Chelsea this season.
