SOLFEST
24TH –26TH August 2007

Tickets for Solfest 2007 went on sale on Monday 2nd April at 9.00am with the Box Office at The Carnegie Theatre, Workington experiencing the biggest demand and sales for any event in the history of the Theatre. Just over three weeks later on 27th April all 7500 festival tickets have sold out!

The demand for tickets for this year’s festival has far surpassed the previous years with extra staff having to be brought in especially for the first day of sales by The Carnegie Theatre. Even so potential buyers were still experiencing waits of up to nine hours to get through on the telephone!

The first day alone saw around 2500 ticket sales with many hundreds of people from throughout Cumbria, and further afield (one couple having risen at 5.00am to begin a journey from Manchester to Workington) queuing down the street, willing to wait up to two hours to get to the front of the queue to ensure they got their tickets for Solfest 2007.

Chairman of Solfest Simon Kay said, "We were confident that all tickets for Solfest 2007 would sell- out but the demand and the speed at which it has happened is unprecedented for a music and arts event of this size within Cumbria. The Solfest team has proved without a shadow of doubt that we can create a huge buzz throughout the UK, and further afield about something happening in Cumbria. This year Solfest has already generated over £350.000 in ticket sales alone" adding "We’re obviously disappointed if anyone has missed the chance to get tickets and be part of, we believe, the biggest and most exceptional open air three day party in the north of England. We have certainly done our very best to let people know that we knew all tickets would sell out and have been urging people to buy their tickets early. For all the lucky ones, see you all in August"

Those appearing at Solfest 2007 include The Levellers, Badly Drawn Boy, Chumbawamba, The Undertones, The Beat, Thea Gilmore, Neville Staple (of The Specials), Show Of Hands, Thea Gilmore, Ozric Tentacles, Easy Star All Stars, Neck, Emily Smith and loads more acts to confirm. Also the success of the new stages and areas instigated last including the bar stage, and the new chill out area, ensures Solfest 2007 will never have a dull moment.
