Experimental, adventurous, cosmic, neon-soaked, the list of adjectives to describe the Thief Of Time persona of Chris Massey, founder of Manchester-born & based record label Sprechen, are as endless as they are complex.
A semi-autobiographical collection of music that draws on a lifetime love of electronic artists and synth-heavy movie scores, The Thief of Time is a trip across the astral planes of electronica and through the neon-soaked streets of South Manchester, where genres cross and styles meet on the creative peripherals away from the dance floor.
If this is perking your finely tuned ears and causing an inquisitorial feeling within you, as it is us, then you're in luck. Chris Massey is bringing his Thief Of Time show to YES Basement on the 19th of December, and tickets are now live!
This mind-expanding live set-up consists of synthesisers, guitars, acid synths, bass guitars, drum machines, and many more. Chris himself is on synths, guitar, vocals & drum machine; Lady Lady of Low Pulse joins on vocals; and Mike Grubert also joins on Guitar. Mike will also be supporting the night under his Love Letters From Space persona, delivering his unique sounds of psychedelic space rock with messages of love and positivity from the far reaches of the Universe.
Also on the bill, is the wonderful Psychederek, who will be spinning tunes and DJing. His latest release, a wicked cover of the acid house classic 'Pacific State' from his new EP 'ALT!' which was recently played by Lauren Laverne on 6Music and you want to hear that and many more of his tunes in the DJ set, make sure to get down early.
The Thief of Time was Sprechen's first album and another edition of their coveted vinyl series. The album features a host of Manchester artists, including A Certain Ratio, Bay Bryan, Psychederek, NIIX, and Love Letters From Space, as well as Allison Rae from Causeway (Italians Do It Better), who were all instrumental in realising Chris's vision and bringing this exciting project into existence.
This night in the confines of YES Basement looks set to be one of the most interesting, esoteric, and engrossing live music experiences on the Mancunian calendar in the coming months. Tickets for this one will go quickly, so secure yours now in the box below!
