From traditional, cosy pubs with peat fires and live music, to ancient establishments that have served up pints for centuries, Dublin is steeped in culture and truly has it all. Whether you're looking to enjoy a pint of the black stuff (Guinness, for the uninitiated), listen to some traditional Irish music, or simply soak up the friendly atmosphere, there's a pub in Dublin that will suit you down to the ground.

So, grab your green hat, shamrock sunglasses, and your best jig shoes, and let's get shamrock and rolling, and make this Paddy's day one to remember!

Temple Bar

Where: 47-48 Temple Bar, Dublin 2, D02 N725

First up, we have the legendary Temple Bar. Now, I know what you're thinking – "But everyone knows about Temple Bar!" – and you're right. But it's still more than worth mentioning because it's the quintessential Irish pub experience. Whilst when St PAddy's inaugural day comes around, you'll struggle to get into this place, with crowds flocking to sup a pint of the black stuff on the day of its global celebration. But even if you can't get in, the vibes surrounding the place are second to none, with street parties and live music.

With its vibrant atmosphere, live music, and quite possibly Ireland's most famous pint of Guinness outside of the factory itself, there are a few better places to celebrate St Patrick's Day in Dublin.

O'Donoghues

Where:  15 Merrion Row, Dublin D02 PF50

Next on the list is O'Donoghue's. This pub has been around since 1934 and is steeped in Ireland's history, both socially and musically. It's where the legendary Irish folk group The Dubliners got their start, and Bruce Springsteen has even graced its stage. You can still catch live music there today, with it happening nearly every night and the odd impromptu session from the plethora of Irish musicians who frequent.

On St Patrick's Day, they'll have traditional Irish music and a lively atmosphere, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a pint or two. So what are you waiting for, the perfect blend of music and merriment, all ready for you to sip on the black stuff and shout out Slainte.

The Long Hall

Where: 51 South Great George's Street, Dublin, D02 DV74

If you're looking for a more upscale experience, head to The Long Hall. This Victorian-era pub is one of the most elegant in Dublin, with its high ceilings, polished mahogany bar, and ornate mirrors; it's truly a spectacle of a pub. They're known for their exceptional Guinness pour, and their whiskey selection is not to be missed.

This St Patrick's Day, they're hosting a special celebration with live music and traditional Irish food, and the vibes in here will be immaculate, but also slightly more upmarket and away from the chaos that can ensue in Dublin around the celebration. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates the finer things in life, but still wants a traditional Paddys Day experience in Dublin.

The Brazen Head

Where: (Venue and city)

For those who want to experience the oldest pub in Dublin, look no further than The Brazen Head. This pub dates back to 1198, and its history is as rich as its beer. Over the years, it's played host to famous patrons that even includes James Joyce. For the history nuts, or those who appreciate the culture, then there are few better places to go; it's like stepping back in time when you enter.

On St Patrick's Day, you can expect to find a festive atmosphere with traditional Irish music and dancing, as well as some hearty pub grub. There are few pubs in the world that can say they've been serving the locals for centuries (and we mean plural), so why not make for The Brazen head for a once-in-a-lifetime experience of pub history?

Toners

Where: 139 Baggot Street, Dublin D02 N231

Last but not least, we have Toners. This pub is a favourite among locals and visitors alike, and has been serving up drinks to customers since the 1700s! It has a cosy, traditional atmosphere, and the staff are always friendly and welcoming, plus its snug is one of the very best in the city, and it is rumoured to be the only place in Dublin that famous poet W.B. Yeats would drink; if that isn't enough to convince you we don't know what is.

Well, actually, there is one more thing, and that is its excellent beer garden, Toners YArd, which is a sought-after rarity in the crowded streets of Dublin. This St Patricks Day they'll be traditional live music, Guinness in a perpetual stream, and vibes aplenty, it's a fantastic option for drinking in Dublin during this Paddy's celebration!
