Summer Sundae Weekender is delighted to announce the addition of one of the bands of the moment Wild Beats to Drowned In Soundstage this year.

And if that wasn’t enough, we’ve also got our hands on the one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year to, as the Phoenix Square Film Tent is set to premier the ground breaking All Tomorrow’s Parties documentary by Warp Films.

Wild Beasts are a very special proposition indeed.  They are one of the few modern day art-rock/alt-pop acts that really dare to push boundaries and with their new album ‘Two Dancers’ they have blown the critics away. The NME (9/10) said "This beautiful album is a treasure that deserves plundering",  The Sunday Times (5* - CD of the Week) – “One of 2009’s indisputable masterpieces” and not least Drowned In Sound (9/10) who said ‘Two Dancers’ “Announce[s] Wild Beasts as one of our genuinely special bands”. High Praise indeed and the way things for Wild Beasts are going I wouldn’t bet against Summer Sundae may be one of the last times to see Wild Beasts in such an intimate surroundings.

The Phoenix Square Film Tent is also whetting our appetite with a multitude of great films including ANVIL: The Story of Anvil, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the timeless classic that is This is Spinal Tap.  Most exciting of all though, Summer Sundae Weekender has the festival exclusive of the brilliant All Tomorrow’s Parties (WARP FILMS) documentary, which was given it’s premier to rave review in Edinburgh last month.

In amongst all this excitement however, there is some bad new as Dananananaykroyd have had to pull out of the event as they’ve sustained some rather nasty injuries on their recent tour.

Anyway, now that there’s little over a week to the main event and we’ve already sold a record number of tickets for what’s becoming the most eagerly anticipated event in this proudly independent festival’s 9 year history and with headliners of the caliber of The Streets, The Zutons, The Charlatans and for many this years must see act Bon Iver alongside great supporting cast of Mystery Jets, Saint Etienne, Idlewild and exciting newcomers Dan Black, Michachu and The Shapes and Chairlift to name but a few, it’s really is time to secure your ticket.

Besides all that the musical delights on offer, there is a multitude of delights to tantalise and entice visitors to this year’s festival. New for 2009 is The Garden, a delightfully esoteric oasis of fun amidst the hubbub of the festival, it is the place to go to be amused and entertained, with a giant flower regularly coming to life, and even a giant Mad Hatter’s tea party.  Activities for the younger crowd will include weird science experiments, jewellery making, giant board games, drum and music workshops, storytelling and graffiti boards.

Also new for 2009 is the Silent Disco, held from 9pm each night in the comedy tent, The always popular eFestivals comedy tent returns for its fifth year as well, running all day till mid-evening and hosted by the Leicester Comedy Festival with headliners that include the likes of Robin Ince, Brendan Burns and Rob Deering.

We are also proud to announce some returning favourites, chiefly the Phrased and Confused spoken word tent, which proved to be an undoubted hit in its freshman year, featuring a range of new collaborations, quizzes, talks and much, much more besides., while children will flock in droves to the magical, bespoke Kidzone, especially with its outer space theme this year.

Add to that secure camping and bike parking, a debut visit by Inertia flat landing bike displays, Amnesty yoga sessions, and a wide variety of food and drink, including the return of the Orange tree real ale and cocktail bar. Just a few more reasons why Summer Sundae Weekender is a destination festival this season.
