Eighties synthpop pioneers Heaven 17 are to play a unique rooftop gig in their home town of Sheffield later this month.

Original members Glen Gregory and Martyn Ware will lead the band through an hour-long set 12 floors up on top of Sheffield Hallam University on Wednesday July 30th.

The gig - part of the university's Fusion festival celebrating its arts and creative studies courses - will be relayed to the pavement below on giant screens.

It is also a preview of the set the band will play on the forthcoming Steel City national tour, alongside fellow Sheffield synth legends Human League and ABC later this year.

Most famous for the hit Temptation - which has been covered by New Order and a duet by Beth Ditto and Jarvis Cocker - Heaven 17 also helped launch the solo career of Tina Turner, producing and providing backing vocals on her debut hit Lets Stay Together.
