Sébastian Tellier's 'La Ritournelle' is inarguably one of the greatest songs of the twenty first century. Released in 2003 as the lead single from his LP Politics that followed a year later, its glorious strings and heartfelt vocals allowed it to work equally as well for laid-back beach sessions as it did as a teary eyed end of night anthem, slowly becoming one of the most defining records of its decade.
A natural heir to the kind of beautiful musical transcendence enjoyed by Massive Attack with 'Unfinished Sympathy' (which recently turned 25), it still sounds glorious thirteen years on. The imprint that released the single Lucky Number will now be doing so again, with a four track package including three new versions alongside the original.
Our Mother's version is now available to listen - check it above - and takes the track into newer territories. Tellier's vocals are cut up and stripped back with a more synth and electronic driven output working, allowing the emotion of the original to slowly bubble under. Gilligan Moss and FTSE will also offer reinterpretations, with the package released on Friday 27th May.
