Congratulations, you made it to the end of the year! Okay, the year hasn’t quite wrapped up yet, but it’s as good as done. And if you’re anything like the rest of the population, you’ve started reflecting on the year you had. You’re probably thinking about the things you wish you did, the things you wish you did differently, and the things you wish you didn’t do. It’s an emotional time.

But dwelling on the past isn’t helpful for anyone. You need to, in the words of Slade, look to the future now. So how can you make sure you have the best 2022? How can you make 2022 ooze with bouj?

Develop a more positive, loving mindset

The whole reason you want to be boujee is so you can make the most of your life, right? So you can feel good about the way you look and the lifestyle you’re living? So being boujee isn’t all about appearance. It’s also about your mindset and mental health. Because no matter how much cash you splash, if you don’t feel good about yourself, it’s pointless. You should feel boujee in an expensive, elegant gown and you should feel boujee in joggers and with your hair in a messy, lopsided bun.

So to be truly boujee, you have to work from the inside out. Start by trying to be more grateful and more loving towards yourself. It can help to keep a gratitude journal and jot down 3-5 things that happened that day that made you feel grateful. And writing down all your achievements and times you admired your character can help you on your journey to self-love.

Go out more

Now, onto the lifestyle. Being boujee is, in part, about splashing out on yourself. And to splash out, you have to actually go out. Sure, you could just buy yourself a new wardrobe. That counts as splashing out. But what’s the point if you have nowhere to show off that new wardrobe?

Plan out some amazing events for next year. There's so much on from festivals, to club events, to gigs, the list is endless. The sooner you start, the better, as you can plan with your friends, you’ll definitely get tickets, and the tickets will probably be cheaper as the price tends to go up closer to the event. And why not upgrade your package? Splash out on VIP or choose glamping. Treat yourself like the VIP you are. And nothing says boujee like having spirits delivered straight to your table so you don’t have to queue. And it gives you more time to enjoy yourself with your friends. Perfect.

Eat good

To tear it up at all these events, you need energy. You need the right fuel. Do you think boujee babes eat at McDonald’s? To be honest, they probably do. But only when they’re hungover or late for their next outing. But other times, they’ll splash out on a meal that they deserve, such as steak, lobster and similar high-end foods at beautiful restaurants.

What you eat is completely up to you. But since it’s a new year, why not try something new? Restaurants have really kicked up their game these past few years, offering unreal dining experiences some of us could never even dream of, RnB and hip hop brunches, for example. You could also try wine and cheese tasting or a tasting menu

Take care of yourself

In every possible way. It’s been a long three years since the pandemic started and a lot of us have struggled in some way or another. Looking after your mental health is vital. So take what you learned from our first tip - gratitude and self-love, - and continue to apply it every day.

You could also interpret this as taking care of your physical appearance. You want to look as good on the outside as you feel on the inside, so it’s also important to take care of your appearance. Again, you’re likely pursuing the boujee lifestyle to improve your life, and putting that extra bit of care in to keep your nails clean, pluck that stray eyebrow, and moisturise can really go a long way. You’ll know you always look like the best version of yourself, and you’ll be more confident. It’s a win-win.

Contrary to popular belief, being boujee isn’t just about going out all the time and spending. It’s a mindset. A way of life. It’s about taking care of yourself by looking great and doing you, but also by feeling great. What’s the point in looking like the personification of the flame emoji if you don’t feel that way too?
